Good article. I think some other reasons to be cheerful about audio in 2010 are:

* 64-bit Digital workstations are here (Logic 9.1 and so on), huge projects could now be done.
* Napster 5$/month unlimited streaming and similar services are now here.
* Instant access to live shows such as the announced Todd Rundgren shows in Europe where you could purchase it on an USB stick immediately after show ends
* More video games produce means bigger market to make video game music
* Pandora streaming everywhere, even with Blue-ray boxes such as the Samsung ones
* Tunecore and similar services makes it very cheap to push out music to the digital distribution systems

And much more.

Very nice article. Good to see people recognize the positives among all the daily complaining.

If you use custom mp3 player firmware like Rockbox, you can play pretty much any format on your mp3 player (iPod included). 24/96 is fine as long as the D/A supports it.

I think loudness wars will continue to reverberate in mainstream music but we're certainly seeing more artists understanding the issue and addressing it. I think we can in a way thank Metallica's Death Magnetic for taking it too far and making more people aware of the issue.
