The man responsible for producing Arcade Fire’s The Suburbs plus Mumford and Sons’ album Sign No More has become the first person to win a Brit Award this year ahead of the ceremony on February 15.
Marcus Dravs, who is currently in the studio with Coldplay and who has in the past collaborated with the likes of Bjork and Brian Eno, picked up both a Music Producers Guild Producer of the Year and a Brit Award for Best Producer at the MPG Awards last night.
The ceremony, which took place at the Café De Paris in central London, also saw Tony Visconti collect the Joe Meek Award for Innovation in Production, from Gary Numan, while Alison Goldfrapp described Mute founder Daniel Miller as a “seminal force and mentor” before handing him the Outstanding Contribution to UK Music award.

Music Producers Guild Chairman Steve Levine says: “There is no doubt that the vast majority of the music loving public has no idea of the amount of work that goes into recording a successful album. So many talented people play a part, from producers and engineers, to mix and mastering engineers and recording studios. It is only natural that artists and song writers should be applauded but we think it is also important that the accolades are shared with the people who work tirelessly behind the scenes to make great records. Our Awards aim to redress the balance and shine a spotlight on the audio professionals who are positioned at the very heart of the music industry.”
We hope to have some photos of the event soon, for a change we didn’t lug the cameras along! It was a very enjoyable evening and possibly one of the best networking events we’ve been to in the UK.

Marcus Dravs really did a great job on Arcade Fire’s The Suburbs and Mumford And Sons’ Sign No More.
Getting awarded at the Brits and the MPG the same year is something. He deserves it!
