James Towler is best known for his recent MPG award for best live album in 2008 and for Grammy nominations for his work with Stevie Winwood.  James took time out with the crew on tour with Steve to record a short video covering how he records and sets up drums in a live situation.

This video requires Quicktime 7 or above and a fast broadband connection to view.

Recording drums in live situations, at gigs or possibly with the whole band recording together in the same room presents problems not encountered in the usual recording studio environment.  You frequently need different microphones, special stands to be sure that the view or cameras aren’t blocked etc etc.  These days the luxury of a mobile truck are gone for many and recording direct to Pro Tools etc is the norm.  James Towler is an expert working in studio and recording live, he won the 2008 MPG award for best live recording and has had further MPG and Grammy nominations.
