Microphone Placement for Plucked Instruments

Dominik Johnson was kindly our test subject recently when George Atkins and Russell Cottier met at 80 Hertz Studios, Manchester, to look at the various recording techniques for plucked instruments.

Being presented with an unusual range of instruments the group discussed how to get the best sound using a variety of room mics, ribbon mics and condenser mics. The very live sound of 80 Hertz Studios worked very well and Dominiks instruments sounded really good.
