With over 20 of years experience in the Music industry, Yard 1 studios is the current studio of choice in the area. The company offers a wide range of audio solutions including Recording, Production and Mastering to customers throughout the UK. Set-Up in 2006, the business is based in the seaside resort of Bideford, North Devon.

 

Yard 1 Studio is based in an old industrial unit by the River Torridge in Bideford. It has a pub nearby for lunch and refreshments, the Tarka Trail which is ideal for some fresh air and a break, and the River Torridge being only 40m away. They are a 5 minute walk to the centre of Bideford where there are pubs, hotels and restaurants, and the nearest beach Westward Ho! is only a 5 min drive away.

 

Yard One recording studios in Devon UKYard 1 Recording Studio caters for a wide range of services. From solo artist to larger band/choir based projects, from amateurs to professionals.

The live room is approx 15' x 12' and a vocal booth ensuring the best recording needed for any situation.


The studio uses a 24/48/8 Soundtracs Topaz console and features 16 track recording via its 3.6 GHz pc running Cubase VST, Sound Forge and T-Raks. Yard 1 studios 'live room' is plenty large enough for most projects and to supplement the live room there is a vocal booth which is acoustically treated so as to provide a dead sound to record with.

 

Tom Watkins pictured is a classically trained musician with an extensive musical knowledge.
He has 15 years music production / recording experience and has produced and engineered different genres of music, from folk, hip hop and bands to country and opera singers.

 

Other member of staff, Jeff 'Spike' Newton is a computer engineer with an in-depth knowledge of computer musical engineering. He has 12 years music production / recording experience, working mainly with DJs and electronic musicians.

 

The equipment list includes synths and samplers: 2 x Emu Proteus 2000, Akai S3000 & Akai S01 Akai XE8 MIDI Drum Expander.


Keyboards: Roland D10 & Yamaha DJX Yamaha Digital Piano. Compressors and FX: Alesis,
Behringer and DBX, Lexicon & Zoom FX.

 

Mics include a selection of AKG, Audio tech & SPL Valve Mics, 2 x SE1A condensor mics, 2 x Shure SM57, AKG D11 bass mic.

 

Monitoring is via K-Rok and JBL Monitors powered by a 1000w Gemini Amp.

 

Included are various acoustic and percussive instruments including a drum kit and Technics 1210 turntables.

 

All in all, the studio offers a lot of flexibility. Yard 1 studios also offers a range of workshops catering for groups of 1 - 10 people. These workshops are perfect for youth groups, schools and other educational facilities. All workshops can contribute towards qualifications such as ASDANs and D of E awards.Music Production - This workshop enables the participants to have an understanding of how modern music is made. They learn basic computer literacy, and to create a piece of music to take away on a CD.
