AVATAR Studios is a 33,000-square-foot multi-room facility on Manhattan's west side dedicated to providing the highest possible quality audio recording services to the recording industry.
Formerly known as the Power Station, it's track record is legendary and its atmosphere is fantastic. Countless hit's have been recorded at the studios over the years with artists including;
Bruce Springsteen, David Bowie, Rolling Stones, Roxy Music, Bob Dylan, David Bowie, Madonna, Bruce Springsteen, Dire Straits, Peter Gabriel, Eric Clapton, Diana Krall, Sting, Bjork and many more!
The studio houses four premier recording rooms containing Neve 8068, two SSL 9000Js and a Neve VRP. AVATAR also has a Pro Tools editing suite and recently added the ability to track directly to the DSD format. That is to digitally record to 2-track Direct Stream Digital (DSD) or 8-track DSD at the same time you are tracking to tape. DSD is a new and improved method of converting music into the digital domain, sampling at 2.8224 MHz. This results in a frequency response from 0 Hz beyond 100 kHz, and a dynamic range greater than 120 dB.
Continuing the tradition of excellence of the Power Station days, Avatar has one of the world's largest collection of Pultec equalizers having at least 8 Pultec equalizers in each of their four premiere rooms. Some rooms have 10 to 12! Also, their extensive microphone collection includes RCA 44, RCA 77, AKG C24 and Telefunken ELAM 251's. Outboard gear includes a Fairchild 670 Stereo Tube Compressor and six Telefunken V77 Tube Microphone Pre-Amps.
The digital front is well catered for with the latest Pro Tools HD system, which is available for rent. Avatar Studios can offer you one more digital option. That is to digitally record to 2-track Direct Stream Digital (DSD) or 8-track DSD at the same time you are tracking to tape.
